Students explored sound vibrations using a balloon. After that, some students safely demonstrated how sound travels through the air.
The children made telephones out of cups and string in order to learn the connection between sound and vibrations. After that, they modified the designs of their telephones to see how it affected the sound. The results varied. Many claimed that they could hear better, some said it was worse, and others said it had about the same as the original design.
It was a picture-perfect day for a picnic. Ms. Robin gladly accepted their attempts at persuasion and treated them to an outdoor lunch opportunity today. There were smiles galore!
Tomorrow is Read Across America Day. It is a special day set aside to celebrate reading. It is also the birthday of the famous author Theodor Seuss Geisel, known as Dr. Seuss.
Our class celebrated a day early with a theme of, "Hats Off to Dr. Seuss." As you can see, many of us wore red, stripes, and/or festive hats. We also had the option to bring a stuffed animal in order to have something soft and cuddly to hold as we read. Before we read and listened to some Dr. Seuss books, we learned about the literary elements of rhyme, rhythm, and repetition. We noticed that Dr. Seuss, as well as many poets, use a lot of those elements to add interest to their writing. Happy reading!
It was a frog-flinging frenzy in the fourth grade today! First, we learned about why we have leap years. Then, we had an introduction to the concept of how energy can be transferred from the sun --> into our food --> into us --> and into the frog. After that, we saw evidence of that energy being transferred and released when we pressed down the back end of a frog to make it leap. It was a hopping good time!
The dry roads and bright sunshine made for a lovely day for a field trip. Students got to tour the Michigan State Capitol and then the Michigan History Museum.
Thank you to all of our wonderful help for taking such good care of us. Thank you to all of our attentive chaperones. Thank you to Mr. Caleb, an aide to Representative Bill G. Schuette, for taking the time to greet us in the Capitol. Thank you to Mr. Jim for being such an informative tour guide. Also, thank you to Mr. Paul, our bus driver, for keeping us safe on our ride down and back. Thank you to Ms. Robin for sharing your photos with us. It was an amazing team effort! |
