It was a frog-flinging frenzy in the fourth grade today! First, we learned about why we have leap years. Then, we had an introduction to the concept of how energy can be transferred from the sun --> into our food --> into us --> and into the frog. After that, we saw evidence of that energy being transferred and released when we pressed down the back end of a frog to make it leap. It was a hopping good time!
The dry roads and bright sunshine made for a lovely day for a field trip. Students got to tour the Michigan State Capitol and then the Michigan History Museum.
Thank you to all of our wonderful help for taking such good care of us. Thank you to all of our attentive chaperones. Thank you to Mr. Caleb, an aide to Representative Bill G. Schuette, for taking the time to greet us in the Capitol. Thank you to Mr. Jim for being such an informative tour guide. Also, thank you to Mr. Paul, our bus driver, for keeping us safe on our ride down and back. Thank you to Ms. Robin for sharing your photos with us. It was an amazing team effort! As part of our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) program, the children can earn tickets by displaying safe, respectful, and responsible behaviors. In turn, they can periodically redeem their tickets for rewards. Recently, a couple of classmates redeemed 45 tickets in order to choose a spirit day for the class. The reward bearers chose to have an International Day. Several students had fun dressing for the special spirit day. We recently took the opportunity to share our realistic fiction stories with each other. It was really eye-opening to reflect on those pieces that were written earlier in the year in order to see how how much we've improved as writers since then.
It was a sea of pink, red, hearts, sugar, sweet sentiments, and slime in room 12 today. Our classroom looked like a hive of bees as the children distributed their Valentine's Day cards, candy, and trinkets this morning. After that, they tasted some tidbits, toyed with the trinkets, and played games with their pals. The afternoon brought more games, more treats, and ice cream sundaes.Thank you to everyone who donated goodies and/or your time to make our party a success. Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!
1. Mailboxes/Bags
Each student may prepare a special box or bag in which to collect his/her Valentines. The box/bag may be brought to school any time prior to the party. This is an optional activity. 2. Valentine's Cards Students are welcome to give Valentine's cards to their classmates. A list of classmates is attached below. That is also an optional activity. 3. Treats/Trinkets for Classmates Your child is welcome to bring in treats/trinkets to give to his/her classmates when we distribute the Valentines. 4. Please have your child bring the mailbox/bag, cards, and any treats/trinkets to school in the morning. We will distribute them in the morning not at the party. 5. Classroom Party -- 1:30-2:45 p.m. Thank you to everyone who has signed up to help. You are appreciated! Participating in a readers' theater builds vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and teamwork skills. We reviewed the elements of a folktale this week in conjunction with preparing to present a Japanese folktale through a readers' theater format at the end of the week. The experience provided an opportunity to enhance many skills while working together to produce an end product.
