Have a SPOOK-tacular evening. Everyone be safe out there!
We had a fun-filled Halloween Party. Thank you to all of the amazing volunteers who donated food, prizes, and/or their time. You were all so appreciated! Have a SPOOK-tacular evening. Everyone be safe out there! Feeling sorry for someone is sympathy; trying to understand how another person is feeling is empathy. When we show empathy toward one another, we can demonstrate that we care, and that promotes deeper relationships with each other.
Miss Jolene taught the children how to recognize body language clues and how to offer a listening ear to someone in need. After that, the students created signs of encouraging words on a topic of their choosing: empathy, kindness, helpfulness or friendliness. They posted their signs throughout the school. Be sure to look for them the next time that you're in the building. The registration for session 2 of Wonderful Wednesdays is going on now. (Even if your child participated in session 1, you will need to register for this next session.) It's an after school program at Messiah for K-5th graders. If you have any questions, please contact Chynna Eckman at Messiah: [email protected] Reader's Theater is way to build reading fluency. Children read through parts in scripts multiple times over the course of several days. Through the repeated readings, the students develop better expression, confidence, projection of voice, comprehension, and teamwork skills.
Miss Barb and Miss Karen from the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library recently paid us a visit. They reminded us of the many free and low-cost resources that the library has to offer. They also generated a lot of excitement about the new additions that are now available such as yard games, binge boxes, craft kits, discovery kits, puzzles, and even an escape room! After that, they taught the children how to search for items on the library's website: https://www.gadml.org/
The Pine River students and staff always look forward to the popcorn that's provided by our PTO each month. Our class took advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoyed the treat out on the track. As all these smiles can attest, they enjoyed every bite of it.
Our classroom writers often confer with one another as a way to rehearse ideas before writing them down or to test their pieces on an interested audience. Partners provide feedback from which the authors may improve their writing. In these photos, each writer is rehearsing the upcoming realistic fiction piece by walking through the elements of the story as planned out on a story mountain.
Students tested their reflexes to catch a falling ruler. They noted how their reaction times got faster with repeated tests. The lesson was a tangible way for students to notice how quickly information travels through nerves from our eyes, brain, and muscles.
Just a reminder, Picture Day is TOMORROW – Thursday, October 13.
