Nurse Rae, our district nurse, stopped by to give us a refresher about the importance of washing our hands well. She shared hand-washing techniques and checked how well we washed our hands by using a special powder and black light. Thank you for the important reminders, Nurse Rae.
Mr. Brad Blanchard, Director of the Great Lakes Bay Veterans Coalition, stopped by with some members of the coalition: Ms. Glynn, Ms. Lincoln, Mr. Smith, and Mr. Velasquez. Our class learned about the history of the United States flag and some basics of flag etiquette. At the conclusion, the students practiced how to fold a flag and had the opportunity to thank each member with a firm handshake. It was an informative lesson, and we were thankful for their visit. National Kindness Week continued today with Crazy Hair and Mismatched Clothing Day. It was a reminder to be your unique self and to show kindness by respecting the uniqueness in others.
In recognition of National Kindness Week, today is Step Up & Stand Out: Crazy Socks Day at Pine River Elementary. It's a visual reminder for each one of us to be an up-stander by stepping up and saying something when we see or hear someone being unkind.
Mr. Ells concluded his student teaching with our class on Friday. We celebrated by giving him special tokens of our appreciation, eating tasty treats, enjoying a bonus recess, and conducting a Readers' Theater. We wish him all the best in the future.
Halloween Day brought us lots of smiles and laughter despite the unseasonably frigid temperatures outdoors. We stayed toasty in our classroom where we enjoyed dressing up and eating yummy snacks. We also had fun playing Pictionary, BINGO, Ring Toss, and charades. Thank you to all of the families who donated food, supplies, prizes and time for our party. It was a great day.
