The children created models to explore the structure of the human eye. They colored paper to represent the iris, cut out a hole for the pupil, used a magnifying lens to represent the cornea, and projected the image of the outdoors onto an index card that represented the retina. Later, they added a smaller pupil to their eye model in order to see how changing the size of the pupil changes the amount of light that was let into the eye. The children were introduced to the genre of mythology and learned about some elements of Greek myths. They worked together in teams to read through their scripts multiple times over several days. The repeated readings helped the children prepare to read their parts more smoothly and with expression. Here are pictures from the final presentations.
Homecoming fever is in the air! The parade will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the church on the corner of Patterson Road and Stewart Road. It will progress down Stewart Road, turn left onto Badour Road, and then turn into the high school parking lot. Bullock Creek will face off against Carrollton tonight at 7:00 p.m. Go, Lancers!
Many of our crew rocked their Crocs on Thursday. Whether Crocs, slip-on shoes, sandals, tennis shoes, or an immobilizer boot, we were ready for whatever the day would bring. Tune in tomorrow as we top off Homecoming Spirit Week by donning our black & gold Lancer wear.
Ahoy, matey! Blimey! I was greeted by a host of young pirates today. Take a look at the lads and lassies that I saw before me eyes this morning. I am happy to report that everything's in shipshape, and there continues to be no mutiny on board. Yo ho ho, carry on!
Homecoming Spirit Week continued today with Team Tuesday. Team Hook wore red, Team Pan wore green, Team Lost Boys wore blue, and Team Tink wore pink and/or glitter. Some chose to be undecided or to mix all colors.
Check back tomorrow to see what the children come up with for Walk the Plank Wednesday. The children completed a science lab where they used a few simple supplies to create robotic fingers. Through this activity, they explored how a real finger bends. You may want to ask your child to show you the robotic finger and to explain how a finger bends using words like bones, joints, tendons, and muscles in the response.
Homecoming Spirit Week kicked off with Meet Your Shadow Monday. Tomorrow will be Team Tuesday. Click here for a description of each day: https://johnsond.weebly.com/home/homecoming-spirit-week-sept-19-23
