Students explored sound vibrations using a balloon. After that, some students safely demonstrated how sound travels through the air. The children made telephones out of cups and string in order to learn the connection between sound and vibrations. After that, they modified the designs of their telephones to see how it affected the sound. The results varied. Many claimed that they could hear better, some said it was worse, and others said it had about the same as the original design.
It was a picture-perfect day for a picnic. Ms. Robin gladly accepted their attempts at persuasion and treated them to an outdoor lunch opportunity today. There were smiles galore!
Tomorrow is Read Across America Day. It is a special day set aside to celebrate reading. It is also the birthday of the famous author Theodor Seuss Geisel, known as Dr. Seuss.
Our class celebrated a day early with a theme of, "Hats Off to Dr. Seuss." As you can see, many of us wore red, stripes, and/or festive hats. We also had the option to bring a stuffed animal in order to have something soft and cuddly to hold as we read. Before we read and listened to some Dr. Seuss books, we learned about the literary elements of rhyme, rhythm, and repetition. We noticed that Dr. Seuss, as well as many poets, use a lot of those elements to add interest to their writing. Happy reading! |
