Thank you to all of the families who donated food, supplies, and prizes for our party. Also, thank you to Mrs. Snell, our math lab instructor, and to Miss Diamond, our high school job shadowing student, for helping with the activities. Everyone had a great time!
Happy Halloween weekend, everyone! The rain didn't dampen our Halloween spirit yesterday. We enjoyed dressing up, playing BINGO and Pictionary, eating, and doing charades. Thank you to all of the families who donated food, supplies, and prizes for our party. Also, thank you to Mrs. Snell, our math lab instructor, and to Miss Diamond, our high school job shadowing student, for helping with the activities. Everyone had a great time!
The students learned about readers' theater this week. The script that we used was The Elephants and the Mice, a fable from India. The children selected their parts, highlighted their dialogue, and practiced their lines with the group multiple times over several days. On Friday morning, the children presented their readers' theater to their classmates.
Engaging in the readers' theater provided an opportunity to practice many skills. The students were introduced to fables, learned new vocabulary, practiced reading fluently multiple times, focused on the theme of kindness during Pine River's Kindness Week, practiced working together with multiple people, and projected their voices for public speaking. Well done, everyone! Plants have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction. We recently dissected a flower to learn more about its structures and how each one plays a part in the plant's reproduction.
Stems are important for a plant's survival. So far, we have learned that stems support a plant by anchoring it into the ground as well as holding the leaves up so they can get sunlight. We have also learned that stems transport water, minerals, and food between the roots and the leaves. Water and minerals are transferred through tissue called the xylem. You can learn more here:
