Thank you to all of our incredible parent chaperones for taking good care of us. Thank you to Representative Annette Glenn and Senator Jim Stamas for taking the time to speak with us. Also, thank you to Mr. Paul, our bus driver from Mitchell Motorcoach, and to Mr. Jerry, our tour guide at the Capitol.
The early morning sunshine made for a lovely trip to Lansing. Students got to tour the Michigan State Capitol and visit the Michigan History Museum. Our classroom's community service project was a success! Thanks to your generosity, 36 Birthday Bags were donated to Midland's Shelterhouse on Tuesday. (Thanks to T. & C. for helping load all of the bags!) The bags filled with cake mixes, frostings, paper goods, party favors and more will be used to help Shelterhouse clients celebrate birthdays while they're in the facility. Thank you for helping our class spread love and kindness to our neighbors.
Directed drawings, exchanging Valentines, ice cream sundaes, and LOTS of candy and laughter made for a fun-filled party. Thank you to our new classroom paraprofessional, Mr. Dan, for his help at the ice cream station and to everyone who donated items to make our party a success. We all enjoyed ourselves.
We launched our fractions unit in Math Lab by making our own set of fraction strips. The process of folding and measuring the strips into equal parts helps to develop important foundational skills. Students took the time to label each unit fraction from the whole, to halves, thirds, fourths, sixths, eighths, and twelfths. Any work that families can do with fractions at home, such as with cooking, baking, or linear measurement, would help to solidify the material.
