Our Open House will take place on Wednesday, August 29th from 6:00 - 6:45 PM. Students are welcome to bring their desk and locker supplies. Parents will have the opportunity to sign up for holiday parties as well as receive the beginning-of-the-year paperwork. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!
Hello Parents & Students,
I hope that everyone is enjoying the summer. I have my windows open to let in the fresh air today. I'm enjoying working to the songs of the cicadas among the soft sounds of the breezes. It's so peaceful! (If you'd like to learn more about cicadas, you can watch the videos below and read more here. It's not too early to start some fourth grade learning, right?) I am sure that many of you are preparing for school just as I am. I hope that you received the welcome letter in the mail and have had an opportunity to pick up some school supplies. I wanted you to know that I will have school supplies available, so don't worry if you don't get everything on the list. I included it all because I know that many students prefer to have their own. Speaking of school supplies, it would be handy if they could be labeled before you bring them to school. (The supplies list and labeling information can be found in previous blog posts. Please scroll down to find them.) If you'd like, you may bring your desk/locker supplies and classroom donations to the open house or the first day of school. Your locker and your desk will be labeled with your name, so you can move right in whenever you're ready. Just a reminder, our open house will be on Wednesday, August 29th from 6:00-6:45. I hope that you and your family will be able to attend. If you'd like to introduce yourself prior to that night, or if you have something on your mind that you want to share with me, please feel free to send me an email. (Kids, be sure to ask your parents first!) I'm looking forward to meeting everyone soon! Educationally yours, Deneal Johnson [email protected] Welcome, Pine River's new fourth graders! It's that time of the year for school supplies. The supplies list was on the back of the letter that was recently mailed from the school, and it can be found below. In order to save some class time on the first day of school, students are encouraged to label materials ahead of time. Each color is for a different subject. See labeling information below. Homework Folder:
Subject Folders & Notebooks: Please write student's first and last name in top, right-hand corner. Please write the subject on the front, too. Each color is for a different subject:
Optional Writing Notebook Decorating Idea: Your child is welcome to decorate the front and/or back covers of the composition notebook with photos or other items such as magazine clippings, comics, calendars, stickers, etc. Hopefully the items will trigger emotions, ideas, and memories for our upcoming writing pieces. Once finished, it's a good idea to go over the covers with packing tape so items don't fall off when moved in and out of the desk. (Note: This is an optional activity. It's fine if your child just leaves the cover plain.) Supplies & Supplies Boxes:

That means it is now time to switch over this blog to include information for the new fourth grade class. I would like to thank you for taking the time to check our classroom website throughout this past year. I encourage students to continue to review the material in the Students section for the remainder of the summer. I enjoyed working with you this past year, and I wish you all the best in fifth grade.
