With the recent thunderstorms and flooding in our area, now would be a good time to learn about severe weather as well as brush up on some safety tips. Remember, stay away from flood waters. Be safe out there!

While you were sleeping during the very early hours of this morning, summer officially started. For us in this part of the northern hemisphere, it started at 12:24 AM. So, what caused the change? The summer solstice! According to Scholastic, the summer solstice is...
...the longest day (most daylight hours) of the year for people living in the northern hemisphere. It is also the day that the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky.

Dear Class, Fourth grade has drawn to a close. It's been another year of great learning, building friendships, and creating memories. I truly enjoyed being your teacher this year and watching everyone learn and grow. I look forward to seeing all of you in the halls this fall. Have a magnificent summer vacation, and keep on learning! :) Sincerely, Ms. Johnson P.S. Keep checking this blog throughout the summer for new videos and activities! Fall 2016Spring 2017It's a fourth grade tradition to join with students from other classes to play trivia on the last day of school. The team with the most points at the end of 10 rounds wins a prize. Thank you to Mrs. Otey for organizing this event.
It was a perfect day for a field day! It was dry all morning, so the students were able to rotate through all of the stations: tire drag, bounce house, bat relay, dribble relay, softball throw, 40-yard dash, and tug-of-war. The rain held off until lunchtime, so everyone ate inside. After the rain passed, back outside we went! A good day was had by all!
Thank you to Mr. Rutterbush for planning the Field Day activities, to our volunteers for running the events, and to the PTO for providing the majority of the food, drinks, and supplies for the picnic. Thank you, parents, for your donations of food and for taking the time to join us today. June 14 – Classroom Awards, Field Day & Picnic

It’s been exciting to watch the children grow, and I look forward to seeing them as 5th graders in the halls this fall. May all of you have a safe and enjoyable summer. Educationally yours, Deneal Johnson The weather turned off to be just beautiful for our 4.1-mile hike this morning. The children hiked to/from the CNC as well as completed the full 3-mile River Trail hike. They not only enjoyed the walking and talking, but they also got to see animals at the homestead. Thank you to our chaperones for their help: Mr. Herron, Mrs. Wassmann, & Mrs. Whittington.
Looking for something to do this summer? Stop by the Chippewa Nature Center. On Monday, students performed fractured fairy tales in front of their classmates. Some groups chose to perform them in front of five other classes as well. Performances included: The Three Little Elephants, Little Late Riding Hood, The Cheetah and the Sloth, Spiderella, and Goldilocks and the Three Bullfrogs.
The students were given a script a little over a week ago. They were told to work together to decide how they wanted to present it. Some chose to memorize their lines, some used props, and some wore costumes. Everyone did a terrific job! |
