Thank you to all of our wonderful parents for making our party a success. Whether you donated food, supplies, and/or your time, it was greatly appreciated. A big shout out goes to Mrs. Whittington for her party-planning skills to pull it all together. Thank you to everyone!
The students enjoyed the Christmas party by rotating through four stations: playing Bingo, making a reindeer necklace, passing presents to the RIGHT or LEFT according to a story, and tossing snowballs & bells into targets. The fun concluded with a time to eat yummy snacks. Thank you to all of our wonderful parents for making our party a success. Whether you donated food, supplies, and/or your time, it was greatly appreciated. A big shout out goes to Mrs. Whittington for her party-planning skills to pull it all together. Thank you to everyone! Education. Dedication. Caring for your body. Those are three of the messages that the students heard at the Red Wings Assembly today. Thank you to Kroger, the Michigan Education Savings Program, and the Detroit Red Wings Foundation for your enthusiastic presentation and your generous donation of school supplies and hockey equipment for our school.
Today, students rotated through the following learning activities: Tangrams, Geoboards, Pentominoes, Legos, and the Jewish game of Dreidel. Not familiar with some of those activities? Here's an Introduction to Tangrams Youtube video, a Geoboard YouTube video, a Pentomino Introduction (YouTube video), and a YouTube video about how to play Dreidel. Enjoy!
Thank you to Mrs. Brandt's Spanish students, with the help of some band members, for spreading some Christmas cheer today. They sang and played a few Spanish songs on their instruments. For their final song, they asked us to join them in singing, "Feliz Navidad." Thank you, Mrs. Brandt and middle school students, for taking the time to stop by and for the yummy candy cane treat!
Feliz Navidad -- Sing Along (YouTube Video) Our book exchange was a big hit. We got into circles and played 'Hot Potato' to festive music. There were lots of smiles as each of the books was unwrapped. Many of the children chose to keep their books at school with plans to read them before break. Thank you, parents, for generously providing your child with a wrapped chapter book for this event.
Our classroom was a flurry of activity on Friday. Our measurement skills were put to the test with our wreath craft. A special thanks goes out to our extra pairs of hands: Mrs. Czolgosz (PTO President), Mrs. Keister (district social worker), and Mr. Long (counselor). We also enjoyed making and wrapping cards and other small gifts for our families.
Dear Families, As a precautionary measure, please periodically check your child’s head for lice. Also, it’s a good idea to write your child’s name or initials inside of his/her snow pants, coats, boots, gloves, etc. since many often look alike. Prior to the book fair, the students engaged in a discussion about the topic of economics. More specifically, they talked about how goods and services are produced, sold, and bought. They thought about what goods they wanted to purchase at the book fair and what the opportunity cost would be. Thank you to our wonderful PTO and volunteers for putting on this event!
Ask your child to sing the "Opportunity Cost" song: Opportunity Cost To the tune of: “Home on the Range” Oh give me a choice, Oh, a difficult choice… And I’ll think about what I could use. I’ll have to decide With my eyes open wide, What I’ll give up and what I will choose. Opportunity Cost! It’s the thing you give up when you choose. It’s the price that is paid, When a choice must be made. It’s the thing that I surely will lose. From: The Econ Song Book C/O Martha C.
