In order to save some class time on the first day of school, students are encouraged to label materials ahead of time. Each color is for a different subject. See labeling information below.
Homework Folder:
- The homework folder should be sturdy. It can be any color/design. Please label with student's name and "Homework."
- Inside the homework folder: Label one pocket "Homework/Return to School" and the other pocket "Keep at Home."
Subject Folders & Notebooks:
Please write student's first and last name in top, right-hand corner. Please write the subject on the front, too.
Each color is for a different subject:
- Reading Workshop (Red)
- Social Studies (Yellow)
- Science (Green)
- Math (Blue)
- Math Lab (Purple)
- Writing Workshop (Orange)
- Writing Workshop Composition Book (I chose orange to go with the orange writing workshop folder, but any color of composition notebook would be fine.) See optional decorating idea below.
Optional Writing Notebook Decorating Idea:
Your child is welcome to decorate the front and/or back covers of the composition notebook with photos or other items such as magazine clippings, comics, calendars, stickers, etc. Hopefully the items will trigger emotions, ideas, and memories for our upcoming writing pieces. Once finished, it's a good idea to go over the covers with packing tape so items don't fall off when moved in and out of the desk. (Note: This is an optional activity. It's fine if your child just leaves the cover plain.)
Supplies & Supplies Boxes:
- Items labeled with the student's name and/or identified with duct tape are easy to return to the owner.
- Pencils can be marked with colorful duct tape, too. Sharpening them at home would be a time saver.
- Space-saving idea: Get rid of marker & colored pencil boxes, label items with duct tape, and place into plastic supply boxes.
